On January 30, 2023, the federal government announced that the two national emergencies addressing COVID-19 will end on May 11, 2023. This includes the Public Health Emergency and the national emergency. Starting May 12, 2023, health plans and group plan sponsors will no longer be subject to federal requirements for coverage of COVID-19 testing, vaccinations and treatments.
Aetna has released a summary of the plan changes that will occur as a result of the end of the Public Health Emergency, which will be shared with plan sponsors. These plan changes affect both fully insured and small group Aetna Funding Advantage℠ plan sponsors.
Aetna also reminds its plan sponsors that, beginning April 1, 2023, state Medicaid programs may begin disenrolling members who no longer qualify or who do not respond to information requests. Losing Medicaid coverage is a qualifying life event, and employers must give affected employees 60 days to enroll in employer-sponsored coverage.
