Forty-five percent of Americans are considering changes to their health insurance during open enrollment. Although a large portion cites the pandemic as the main factor, others are looking at costs, according to ValuePenguin's most recent survey. Almost half are expecting higher premiums in 2022.
Americans say these are the most important factors when selecting a health plan:
- 24% Premiums
- 20% Covered services
- 14% Deductibles
Here’s why people are considering a change:
- 35% Cite the Coronavirus pandemic
- 33% Report changing health care needs
- 25% Say they’re not satisfied with the plan or provider
- 18% Complain that out-of-pocket costs were too high last year
- 9% Say they’re paying for unused coverage
- 9% Say they’ve had a major life event (marriage, baby, etc.)
- 6% Other
Twenty percent say they’ve made a mistake during open enrollment. The most common errors are:
- 28% not fully exploring their options
- 26% missing the open enrollment deadline
