The annual federal Special Enrollment Period (SEP) is 11/15-12/15 for a 1/1/2022 effective date. Anthem Blue Cross of California answers some of the questions you many have for clients who may not meet participation or contribution requirements and qualify for this SEP.
When can I submit SEP groups?
SEP groups can be submitted starting on 11/15/2021 through 12/15/2021. If you are submitting on 12/15/2021, the case cannot have any requirements and MUST be clean at submission.
Can we defer the first months premium?
Yes for 1/1/2022, you can defer the first months premium until 12/15/2021; however, you MUST use Automatic Check Withdrawal.
Can a group use the No DE9c promotion for SEP cases?
Yes; however, you must be enrolling at least 3 employees to use the no DE9c promotion and you will need to submit a prior carrier bill.
Does the 12 month away rule apply to groups that would like to elect the SEP this year, but have voluntarily lapsed their coverage in the previous 12 months?
For a group to come back, the group must be in good standing with Anthem; however, it does not have to be away for 12 months.
