Expansion of Blue Shield Pharmacy Network
As part of Pharmacy Care Reimagined, Blue Shield of California is exploring opportunities to transform how members receive specialty medications for rare bleeding disorders like hemophilia. Members with hemophilia now have more network options to receive factor and Hemlibra®, with high-quality and comprehensive care management.
Effective January 1, 2024, we are:
- Expanding our network of specialty pharmacies that provide hemophilia specialty medications, like factor and Hemlibra, to now include Red Chip, CVS Caremark®, and Accredo.
- Providing members access to a federally funded network of Hemophilia Treatment Centers – including University of California San Diego, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, University of California San Francisco Benioff Children’s Hospital, and Center for Inherited Blood Disorders – through their contract pharmacy program via Red Chip.
- Requiring prior authorization for new factor requests or for members who change prescribing providers
Ginger is now Headspace Care
One of the Blue Shield's popular Wellvolution apps, Ginger, is now known as Headspace Care. The Headspace Care app offers the same service as Ginger: mental health services for individuals to get the right care at the right time, from behavioral health coaching to therapy and psychiatry support.
The app is now managed by Headspace, whose app on Wellvolution assists members with meditation and sleep support.
