Blue Shield is committed to building provider networks that deliver their mission of high-quality care at sustainably affordable prices. To this end, there are several changes coming to the Tandem network in 2025.
The Tandem network will no longer include Stanford and Cedars-Sinai facilities effective January 1, 2025. Tandem’s network is centered on value-based contracts which lead to lower, more predictable costs for employers and members. Reducing the number of high-cost providers allows Tandem to build cost efficiencies into its innovative network design. Blue Shield knows this update occurs during open enrollment and some employer groups may choose to revisit their plan selections and they regret any inconvenience caused by this change.
The UCSD Hospital will be added to the Tandem network, meaning all University of California (UC) hospitals across the state will be available in 2025. Around 1,800 value-based PCPs across California will be added, furthering the goal of quality and value for customers.
These changes to the Tandem network will be reflected in their Network Comparison Tool by the end of this month. The Network Comparison Tool is an essential resource for choosing network options. Users can compare the Tandem network against full PPO options, search by county, and find specific provider groups.
