Due to a cyber security issue at one of our service providers, Change Healthcare, part of insurer United Health Group’s Optum business, Guardian is experiencing a service disruption along with many other organizations across the health care industry.
Upon learning of Change Healthcare’s security issue and out of an abundance of caution, Guardian has shut down connections to their systems. As a result, certain documents, including EOBs, letters, and other benefit and claim correspondence processed through Change Healthcare may not be available to customers on Guardian’s website, and some processes could be delayed.
Since this issue arose, Guardian has been working to minimize disruptions to planholders and their employees as well as to their dental provider community. Guardian has implemented solutions to temporarily deliver all new correspondence by print mail and have provided alternative methods for their dental providers to submit claims, send attachments, and verify eligibility.
Also note Change Healthcare is not significantly involved with Guardian’s LTD and Life insurance benefits, and Guardian has put in place a mitigation plan, so there is no impact to customers in those areas.
Guardian is monitoring the situation closely with Change Healthcare and will advise as new information becomes available.
