Health plans are making mental health support more accessible and affordable, according to a survey by AHIP:
- Telehealth: 100% provide coverage for tele-behavioral health services
- In-Network Providers: Commercial health plans have increased the number of in-network behavioral health providers by 48% in three years
- Provider Payments: 78% of health plans have increased payments to providers to recruit more high-quality professionals to their plan networks
- Substance Abuse Providers: The number of providers who are eligible to prescribe Medication Assisted Therapy for substance use disorder has more than doubled – growing 114% over three years
- PCP Support: 72% are training and supporting primary-care physicians to care for patients with mild/moderate behavioral health conditions
- Appointment Assistance: 83% help enrollees find mental and behavioral health appointments
- Case Managers: 78% use specialized case managers to follow-up after emergency room and inpatient care or the start of new medications
