Medicaid redetermination may not be a topic that typically crosses your desk. But with recent legislative changes to policies enacted during the pandemic, employers and employees may have questions about what a resumption in redeterminations means for a potential uptick in employer-sponsored health care coverage.
Here’s the gist:
- Beginning as early as April 1, about 15-18M people no longer will be eligible for Medicaid
- While April 1 is the earliest date on which people may be disenrolled from Medicaid, it’s expected that states will initiate their redetermination process throughout 2023—with all states having to complete the redetermination process by March 2024
- For those disenrolled from Medicaid, they may look to employer-sponsored health care to stay covered as part of a special enrollment period triggered by this qualifying event
