This October, UnitedHealthcare is introducing digital health plan ID cards to plan subscribers who elect "paperless" within myUHC.com and the UnitedHealthcare app.
Employees who have elected to go paperless for their required communications will now receive an email containing information about their new digital medical ID card, how to access it, how to change their paperless preferences, and how to add their new digital ID card to their Apple or Google wallet. Within the email, there will also be a direct link that allows them to easily opt out and continue to receive a physical ID card if they so desire.
A digital ID card provides easy access to health plan information. Members simply need to show them at their doctor's office, clinic, pharmacy, or wherever benefit information needs to be presented. the digital ID card is viewable through the UnitedHealthcare app or myUHC.com.
Communications Timeline:
- New digital pop-up messaging and notifications will be presented within the digital experiences of myUHC.com and the UnitedHealthcare app.
- Beginning October 10, 2023, subscribers who have selected "paperless" for required communications in their myUHC.com or UnitedHealthcare app will receive a welcome email with information about their new digital medical ID card.
- Beginning November 7, 2023, new paperless elections and/or changes in family or plan status will result in a transactional email containing information about their new or updated digital medical ID card.
Note: if a member's email address is returned "undeliverable," a notification letter will be mailed, which will include a physical medical ID card and instructions about updating information on myUHC.com.
Activation Timeline:
- All groups on UNET and PRIME platforms will be included in this rollout. Members who have elected to be paperless will now have their ID card be included as part of their paperless election. If the member prefers a physical ID card, they can update their paperless preference settings via myUHC.com and the UnitedHealthcare app to allow for a physical ID card.
- Groups on the USP platform will be added to this rollout in Q1 2024. Those members who elect paperless will begin to receive digital-only ID cards at that time.
- Groups on the NICE platform will be added to the paperless digital ID card program once they migrate to the USP platform.
