As of October 1, 2023, Unum will no longer be supporting payroll deduction options for certain legacy products when fewer than ten (10) employees are enrolled in those products. Instead, these employees will be moved to direct billing, with quarterly invoices sent directly to the employees.
To ensure a seamless transition involving these products, Unum is requesting that affected plan administrators do the following:
- End payroll deductions after the last deduction in September
- Ensure that affected employees' addresses are updated on the Unum Payment Backup
- Share the announcement flyer with the affected employees, so that they are aware of their options.
After the October 1 transition, employees who keep their premium payments up-to-date will retain their coverage, but the group relationship for the affected products will be cancelled. No further enrollment or payment from the client will be required.
Should employees have questions or concerns during or after this transition, they can contact Unum directly at 866-679-3054.
