Anthem Blue Cross and Sutter Health are engaged in negotiations to renew their contract, which is set to end on April 1, 2019. While they continue to negotiate, California Department of Managed Care (DMHC) requires health plans to notify HMO members at least 60 days in advance of any changes made to their health plan. In order to comply with DMHC requirements, Anthem sent letters to HMO members who are assigned to a Sutter physician.
The letter informs impacted HMO members that they will be assigned to another primary care doctor effective April 1, 2019 if a new agreement is not reached by that date. We want to make clear that this negotiation also impacts PPO members. Anthem would notify PPO members who have received services at a Sutter Health hospital within the last 12 months and/or those with an approved authorization.
Please know this notification would go out to PPO members post termination if the contract does not renew. Anthem continues to keep consumers’ access to affordable healthcare a top priority.
We will be sure to keep you updated of developments.
