[UPDATE AUGUST 19, 2024] UnitedHealthcare and Trinity Health of New England have jointly announced that they have reached a new multi-year contract for the health system's hospitals, facilities, and physicians. The agreement is retroactive to July 1, 2024, which was the date that the prior agreement expired.
[JULY 8, 2024] UnitedHealthcare has announced that Trinity Health of New England (THNE) physicians are out-of-network for its commercial members as of July 1, 2024. This announcement includes fully insured, level funded, self-insured, and ASO business as well as Oxford Health Plans.
THNE hospitals are also out-of-network, but are covered by Connecticut's cooling off requirements; thus, they will be treated as in-network providers until August 31, 2024. (This provision includes Mercy Medical Center in Massachusetts.)
UnitedHealthcare/Oxford members continue to have access to thousands of physicians and numerous hospitals in the area, including, but not limited to:
- Hartford Hospital
- Holyoke Medical Center
- Midstate Medical Center
- Prospect Manchester Hospital
- Rockville General Hospital
- Waterbury Hospital
In addition, continuity of care may be available for patients who are in their second or third trimester of pregnancy; for patients with newly diagnosed or relapsed cancer; for patients currently in active cancer treatment; or for patients experiencing certain other serious health conditions. If approved, this will allow them to receive continued in-network care from THNE facilities for up to 90 days (or through the remainder of the pregnancy). Members requesting continuity of care should use the available form or call the number on their health plan ID card.
UnitedHealthcare remains committed to continued discussions with THNE, with a goal of keeping their hospitals and physicians in the network, at a cost that is affordable to the people and employers they serve. They have created a web site with important information for their members, as well as a summary of their position on the contract negotiations. Both of these sites will be updated if and when further information becomes available.
