Shorter wait times (than in an ER), comparable cost, and convenience are all reasons for the growing popularity of urgent care centers. These facilities are able to handle a wide variety of medical problems that need to be treated right away, but are not considered emergencies. It also provides another option to treat these (minor) illnesses or injuries when a doctor’s offices are busy, or when it is after-hours as many urgent care centers are open after 5p.m.
WHA’s network of contracted urgent care facilities is one of the best, especially in the Sacramento region. Their medical groups offer its own facilities, but have also contracted with independent urgent care facilities to ensure members have easy access to care. Having quick and convenient access also keeps members out of the ER for basic needs, not only saving money but also time and the risk faced in an ER (i.e. being in close quarters to other sick individuals).
WHA and its partners distinguish themselves by offering these expanded choices for greater access to care. To expand that access, Dignity and NorthBay Health recently contracted with Carbon Health who combines smart technology with modern, welcoming clinics. More of these urgent care centers are coming: Dignity Health with a new facility in Carmichael (Sacramento area); NorthBay Health offering a new facility in Vacaville (Solano county).
