What Confuses People Most About Health Insurance
The average American gets a D for their health insurance knowledge, according to a survey by OnePoll. Consumers are most confused about:
- 52% What counts toward my deductible
- 47% Which procedures are covered
- 47% Which services are out of network
- 43% What can I use my FSA/HSA on
- 28% Do I qualify for discounts
All this confusion has real-world consequences. On average, consumers say they waste $111 a month because of confusion over their health insurance plan.
Uncertainty about their plan has led 59% to put off medical appointments and 53% to put off a prescription. Thirty-five percent have delayed a necessary check-up out of concern over the cost, regardless of their health care coverage.
