Gallup recently asked over 13,000 employees what’s most important when considering a job from a new employer. What surprised researchers is how much more important pay and benefits have gotten. It’s now the number one category on the list of importance climbing from number 4 in 2015. Sixty-four percent say that it’s a critical factor in taking a new job. A key reason for the shift is that employees see it as a job seeker's market now. Employees are also looking for the following:
- 61% Greater work-life balance and better personal wellbeing
- 58% The ability to do what they do best
- 53% Greater stability and job security
- 43% COVID-19 vaccination policies that align with their beliefs
- Gallup says that employers should consider the following:
Improve your pay conversations. Arming hiring managers and team leaders with up-to-date market pay rates and total compensation options will be critical to building a strong workforce
- Review your well-being promise. Employees want to know that their employer cares about them as a person and will help them thrive instead of burning out
- Assess your EVP and candidate experience. Employers need to analyze their recruiting environment and the desires of employees in specific job markets. There are important differences among job types, candidate pools, industries, geographies, and employee demographics.
- Narrow your focus to top talent. Employers who are searching for the best talent need to recognize that high-performing, high-potential individuals often have unique desires. Employers should study their own high performers and top-tier job candidates so that their recruiting targets resonate with the right people
