Many working Americans don’t know where to turn for health insurance questions, so 62% stay with the same plan every year, according to a survey by The Harris Poll. They often misunderstand basic facts about health insurance, such as deductibles, HSAs, and FSAs. This confusion could undermine the employers’ efforts to add new plans or offer coverage at new price points. It could also lead to dissatisfaction. Sixty-three percent say their company’s health insurance offerings influence whether they want to stay.
Seventy-two percent say they need someone to tell them what is the best health insurance for them. Here are some common struggles:
- 44% are worried about asking an HR representative about health insurance enrollment
- 47% call a friend or family member for help when signing up for health insurance
- 49% feel pressured to choose the most expensive health insurance option to get the coverage they need
