UPDATE: UnitedHealthcare and Mount Sinai Health System have agreed to a new network contract. Mount Sinai Hospitals are in-network providers, effective March 19, 2024. Mount Sinai physicians have remained in-network throughout.
Effective January 1, 2024, Mount Sinai Hospitals in New York are no longer in-network facilities for UnitedHealthcare and Oxford Health Plans. Pertinent information for members is as follows:
- Due to the cooling-off period required in New York, members on UnitedHealthcare and Oxford fully insured commercial plans will have network access to these facilities through February 29, 2024.
- Members on self-insured commercial plans (including ASO) will only have access to Mount Sinai Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens during the cooling-off period.
- The network change only affects employer-sponsored and individual commercial plans through UnitedHealthcare and Oxford Health Plans. All other plans, including Medicare Advantage and the Empire Plan, will continue to have network access to Mount Sinai Hospitals.
- The contract specifically affects Mount Sinai Hospitals. However, Mount Sinai's physicians will be effectively out-of-network unless they obtain admitting privileges to an in-network hospital.
- UnitedHealthcare has prepared an alternative provider list for its members.
- Continuity of care is available. Qualifying members should apply as soon as possible if they have not done so already.
Negotiations between UnitedHealthcare and Mount Sinai Hospitals are continuing. This article will be updated if and when there is a change in the network status for Mount Sinai Hospitals and/or Mount Sinai's physicians.
